Future Rotary Leaders Program

We are very pleased to announce the launch of a new Zone 24-32 Rotary Institute initiative called the Future Rotary Leaders (FRL) Program.

For the first time Districts may invite up and coming leaders, or potential Governors in their Districts to participate in a newly created Zone Institute program. The FRL program is designed to assist Districts in educating and grooming Rotarians for leadership positions in each district while having them experience aspects of the Zone Institute; keynote speakers, seminars, fun and fellowship.
District Governor and District Governors Elect, are in the unique position to identify these talented Rotarians in their district and help Rotary cultivate our most valuable resources, our members. Each District may only select two Future Rotary Leaders from the District. However, under extraordinary circumstances a third will be considered. Each Future Rotary Leader will receive a personal invitation to participate in the full Institute and some select educational events.

Past RI President Richard H. Wells 1944-45 stated: “Can we inspire our members to become leaders? [Rotarians] should not be crying for leadership from above; we should be growing strong from below.”

Past RI President Clem Renouf 1978-79 stated: “There is a great temptation when choosing people for a specific assignment to choose someone who has previously done the job . . . but it seems to me that one of the responsibilities of leadership is to seek out and develop the latent talent of those members who, for various reasons, have never had a real chance to demonstrate their ability.”

The Future Rotary Leaders Program is coordinated by PDG Duncan Conrad for Zone 24 at duncanconrad@eastlink.ca and PDG Ravishankar Bhooplapur for Zone 32 at rotary7250@gmail.com.

Reunion Dinner - At Sea
On Friday, October 19, 2012 the annual Past Officers Class Reunion Dinner will be held at sea. We will cruise on the new Magic Spirit, Magic Yacht Charters’ newest ship – the largest charter vessel in Vancouver. The ship at 155 in length has 7,500 sq feet on three decks and can accommodate 500 passengers. The ship will leave from the dock at the rear of the Institute Hotel - no buses - just walk a few steps from the hotel and board the beautiful Magic Spirit. We will all enjoy a sunset cruise leaving from Coal Harbour and cruising around Stanley Park, under the Lions Gate Bridge into English Bay and False Creek. Float along the shoreline and enjoy dynamic views of Vancouver's well-known landmarks and the expansive waterfront. Glide through English Bay as you wave goodbye to the West End and return under the Lions Gate Bridge. Bring your camera!!

Plan a Golf Game

There is no Institute golf tournament planned. However the institute committee would be pleased to assist in arranging a came with local Rotarians before or after the institute.

Vancouver hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, but don't be fooled into thinking of it as just a winter destination. As one of Canada's warmest cities, Vancouver has a golf season that runs from April through November. There is much to see and do in the largest city in Western Canada. Stanley Park (open year round) is home to forests, gardens, hiking trails, and the Vancouver Aquarium, while Robson Street is the place to go for shopping.

There is always time for golf in Vancouver! If you are an avid golfer or a beginner and you want to get out on the green, then check out these top Vancouver-area golf courses. You may not think of Vancouver as a golfer’s paradise, but it does offer some of the best golf in the country. There are more than 50 golf courses within a two hour drive of Vancouver.
